Andrew Reynolds Interview – Part Nine

Continuing our series on Direct Response marketing – and interview with Direct Marketer Andrew Reynolds Part Nine

Q: It seems you have to be like an artist painting on a canvas to put together a strong sales letter?

Andrew Reynolds: Yes – as a writer you need to be exactly that. A good writer will paint a wonderful picture of the reader enjoying all the rewards, features and benefits promised, after they make their informed decision to buy. You are like a fine artist or a lyricist writing song lyrics – as the writer you’ll use vivid descriptions and almost paint pictures with your words to bring your product or service to life in the readers mind.

Q: I’ve noticed that different writers almost have different personalities in their letters.

Andrew Reynolds: Yes – like different individuals when you first meet them – everyone has a different personality. In your writing you need to get across your own personality – not some fake made up persona. Inject you own particular style and personality into your writing. You’ll find it will be this almost personal touch that will give your message a feel of being something different ..something unique.

Q: So you’re saying that by speaking from your personality, you help to build a more personal bond with the prospective customer?

Andrew Reynolds: Yes. You also need to capture the attention and interest of your future customer prospect right from the first word. Although getting their attention alone is
just not enough – you also need to stimulate interest in the readers mind. If you don’t; get their interest, just getting the prospects attention will serve no useful purpose at all

Q: I guess you need to get inside the mind of your customer?

Andrew Reynolds: You also need to get to know your customer before you try to sell to them. Not on a one to one of course – but get to know your target audience. The more you know about your typical
customers mind-set, their real concerns, their likely desires and most importantly, their previous buying habits, you’ll find you are far better equipped to develop an offer that fits with them and which they are more likely to respond to.
